Crown Ducal – Charlotte Rhead Charger – stock #38518

A late 1930s art deco design wall plate designed by Charlotte Rhead and made by Crown Ducal. It is decorated a tubeline pattern called “Fruit Border” with a band of lustre glaze fruit in yellow, mauve and orange colours on the “bronze” mottled background colour. Gilt highlights. Printed makers mark on the underside that were in use from c1936 until c1942.

Elis Bergh – Kosta Glass Vase – stock #39218

A Swedish art glass vase with a flared trumpet shape and blue grey colour. It has internal optical ribbing, similar to that seen on Whitefriars Glass. Marked on the underside with etched pattern numbers “B826”

Understood to be by the Swedish architect designer Elis Bergh (1881-1954) and made at the Kosta Glass Factory where he was artist director from 1928 until 1950.

Kayserzinn – Pewter Cache Pot 4596 – stock #37118

An early 20th century pewter small jardiniere cache pot decorated with an art nouveau / jugendstil pattern of stylised leaves and berries above a chequer board band.

Made by the German firm; J.P.Kayser & Sohn AG (1862-1925) as part of their KAYSERZINN range of art ware. Moulded circular makers mark on the underside together with pattern number 4596. Possibly designed by Hugo Levin (1886-1918), who was known for organic jugendstil designs.

An early 20th century silver plated crumb tray by the German maker Orivit AG decorated with a jugendstil secessionist pattern of stylised flowers and leaves. Stamped makers mark of OAG monogram within a shield together with a pattern number 9243.

Orivit was a Cologne based metalware manufacturer established in 1894. They were bought by WMF in 1905 but continued until c1914.

W H Mawson Keswick – Pair of Brass Vases – stock #37918

A pair of arts and crafts brass spill vases by W H Mawson of Keswick. Each has a flared cylinder for with a chased stylised rope pattern and with a planished finish. Dating to c1910.

William Henry Mawson (d1960) was a art metalworker and the proproetor of “Keswick Home Industries. He had trained at the Keswick School of Industrial Art and was known to employed workers from KSIA in the winter months, when they had been laid off. Forms and pattern are often similar to but not exact copies of the work of KSIA.

Arts & Crafts Copper Vase

Arts & Crafts Copper Vase c1900 – stock #39318

A super quality original arts and crafts copper vase of a taper form with flared base and top rim. It is decorated with bands of chased pattern of stylised flowers with Celtic/Irish knots. Constructed with a soldered/brazed over lapping vertical seem.

There are no makers marks or signatures on the vase. The construction and shape are not typical of Keswick makers, but the decoration has similarities. Possibly Irish as hinted by the Knot patterns, and a suggestion could be; Thomas sparks of the Youghal Art Metal Works as he trained at the Keswick School of industrial Art.

A good looking pair of copper arts and crafts vase with a foot cylinder form with flared top. Decorated with a design of a stylised leaves and flowers within double lined borders. Typical “Keswick” shape and construction.

These vases are not marked or signed, so certain attribution is not possible. The form suggests a “Keswick” connection, either unmarked Keswick School of Industrial Art, W H Mawson Keswick Home Industries or possibly Thomas Sparks’ Youghal Art Metal Works in Ireland.
