Fully marked on the underside with the early etched “VASART” signature.

A good looking original Riihimaen Lasi vase from the “Pala” range designed by Helena Tynell (1918-2016) in c1964. These vases were made in several sizes and colours. This example is one of the larger sizes in a clear glass and decorated with a textured surface with vertical raised “dashes”. Marked with it’s original makers label.

Am impressive mid century modern design Czech glass vase designed by Milena Veliskova for the Skrdlovice Glassworks and ating from c1955. It has a heavy tear drop form in dusky pink colour with a pocket on the side in a pale blue colour. These colours move around according to light conditions.

This is pattern number 5555 and is known as the Kangaroo Vase.

A fine looking Loetz art glass vase dating to the c1900 with a waisted stylised flower shaped form with wavy top rim. It has a very pale green, luminous and translucent ground with matte iridescence colour. From a range of art glass called Olympia Glatt that was in production from c1896.

Unmarked – Hollow ground and polished pontil on the underside.

Istvan Komaromy – Ribbon Dancer

Istvan Komaromy – Ribbon Dancer – stock #34018

A gorgeous glass lamp work sculpture of a dancer with ribbon perched upon a white ball. Created by the glass artist Istvan Komaromy (1910-1975). Most likely a 1950s example created in his studio in Shirley, Nr Croydon Surrey.

Istvan was Hungarian artist born in Dusseldorf and studied science at university in Budapest. During his studies he bacame fascinated with glass, which led to him becming a glass artist. He exhibied throughout Europe, including at the World Fair in 1931. Where Mussolini, who had been minister of Arts, described Istvan Komaromy as “the Michelangelo of glass”. He moved to Britain in 1937, settling in Shirley in 1939.

A fine art deco streaky veined swirling pink coloured art glass vase dating to the mid 1930’s from the “Antique Glass” range of art wears made by Hartley Wood & Co Ltd.

The Wear Glass Works was established in Sunderland c1837 and trading as Hartley Wood and Co Ltd from 1895. The company was sold to Pilkington’s in 1983 and finally closed in 1989.
