P F Alexander – George V Brass Plate

Peter Frederick Alexander – Arts & Crafts – George V Brass Plate – stock #41316

An interesting and original arts and crafts brass plate hand made and decorated with a central GV monogram within a cartouche with the rim border decorated with a stamped pattern. Signed “P F Alexander” on the rim as shown in the pictures.

I assume that this design relates to the Coronation of King George the V and would date to c1910. This piece was created by the silversmith and metalworker Peter Frederick Alexander (1865-1958) of 28 Church Row, Hampstead, London. He was an artisan creating silver and base metal items in the later arts and crafts style. He was married to the artist Frances Emma Bryan (1875-1960). In 1911 they are recorded as living in Walberswick, Suffolk. Some Alexander pieces can be seen in the Southwold Museum.
