Rosa Ramalho – Queen Figurine

Rosa Ramalho – Queen Figurine – stock #20417

An outstanding large folk art pottery figurine of a flower Queen by the Portugese artist Rosa Ramalho. It is naively modelled and glazzed in a rich mustard yellow colour. Signed RR on the foot rim. There are some areas of glaze flaking which have been over-painted – most likely in period.

Rosa Ramalho (1888–1977) was the working name of the noted Portuguese ceramic artist Rosa Barbosa Lopes. Although she learnt pottery whilst still young, it wasn’t until after her husband’s death when she was aged 68, that she began to create the figures that would establish her fame. Rosa was enroled as a Dame in the Order of Saint James of the Sword and in 1968 awarded the medal “As Artes ao Serviço da Nação” (Arts in Service to the Nation). SEE online video CLICK HERE

Rosenthal Vases

Rosenthal Vases – stock #55616

These are two graduated white porcelain vase with a mid century modern design, made by the German maker Rosenthal as part of their Studio Line range of art ware. Marked on the underside with printed and moulded marks to suggest a date of mid 1970’s for the larger and c1990 for the smaller.

Although unsigned this design feels a bit similar to the work of the Italian designer Lino Sabbatini (b1925) who produced a number of designs for Rosenthal.
