Celtic Pottery – Medallion Plate – stock #28818
A great looking mid century modern design studio pottery plate by the Celtic Pottery, Newlyn. This pattern is from the “Medallion” range and in a yellow tan colourway. Most likely dating to the early 1970s.
The Celtic Pottery was established in Mousehole, Cornwall in the mid 1960s by Bill and Maggie Fisher before moving to Newlyn. They produced variation of too designs; initially Maggie created “FolK”, a group of patterns with a string heraldic feel, that often included a spikey Cockerel motif. Later, after the move to Newlyn, where see worked with Ev Stevens, the pottery produced the Medallion” pattern with it’s distinctive labyrinth mosaic of mottled glazes.
