Bourne Denby TIGO WARE – RAK (Lobster) Bowl – stock #49117

A super Bourne Denby Tigo Ware bowl dating to the mid 1950’s. Typical slightly quirky Tigo Ware design – this design is titled RAK or Lobster and nominally called a sugar bowl. Designed by Tibor Reich; it has an organic form decorated with a matt black glaze with random white pimples on the exterior. the inside is glaze white. Illustrated on pages 30 and 127 of “Denby Pottery 1809-1997” by Irene Hopwood.

Marked on the underside “Made in England”

It has a modern cylinder shape with and is decorated with a modernist textured design of groups of pimples amongst a sinuous ribbon pattern. Reminds me of sea urchins and seaweed. A super pair of early Royal Doulton Geo Moreland seriesware plates dating to 1902 decorated with illustrations of a lady riding with a pack of hounds together with it’s companian of a gentleman hunter riding with a pack of hounds.

Printed and impressed makers marks on the backs. Impressed date marks for 1902. Excellent condition for age. A few tiny firing glaze faults on the rims and wear to the rim gilding.

Charlotte Rhead – Bursley Ware Peony Vase – Pattern No TL43 – stock #37117

An impressive large size original art deco period vase designed by Charlotte Rhead for Bursley Ware and dating to c1950. It is decorated with a tubeline pattern titled “Peony” which has a tubeline pattern of wind swept peony flowers and leaves in blue tones with a mottled cream background.

Printed marks on the back; “Bursley Ware Charlotte Rhead England” together with pattern number TL43. Similar pattern illustrated in “Collecting Rhead Pottery” by Bernard Bumpus in Plate 104 on Page 72.
