Istvan Komaromy – Ribbon Dancer – stock #34018
A gorgeous glass lamp work sculpture of a dancer with ribbon perched upon a white ball. Created by the glass artist Istvan Komaromy (1910-1975). Most likely a 1950s example created in his studio in Shirley, Nr Croydon Surrey.
Istvan was Hungarian artist born in Dusseldorf and studied science at university in Budapest. During his studies he bacame fascinated with glass, which led to him becming a glass artist. He exhibied throughout Europe, including at the World Fair in 1931. Where Mussolini, who had been minister of Arts, described Istvan Komaromy as “the Michelangelo of glass”. He moved to Britain in 1937, settling in Shirley in 1939.
