E Hargrave – Wood Engraving – stock #15118

A striking original print wood engraving of a woodland pool with a frog climbing out of the water onto a tree stump that is amongst riverside plants. Printed in black on fine white tissue paper. Presented in a fresh mount and in it’s orignal limed oak wood frame.

No biographical details have been traced for this artist. Several “E Hargrave” artist are recorded but do not fit with this style or period.

Bursley Ware – Charlotte Rhead – Lampbase – stock #37718

A super looking original Bursley Ware lampbase decorated with an art deco inspired design by Charlotte Rhead. This pattern is TL72 and dates to the mid part of the 1950’s. It has a tubelined multi coloured floral pattern with tulips and other stylised flowers and leaves and an overall lustre effect.

Similar pattern illustrated in “Collecting Rhead Pottery” by Bernard Bumpus in Plate 95 on Page 65.

Crown Ducal – Charlotte Rhead Byzantine Ewer – stock #33318

A fine looking art deco design art pottery ewer made by Crown Ducal and designed by Charlotte Rhead with stylised flowers and leaves in yellow, orange, blue amd greem on a stimpled orange back ground glaze. This example is decorated with the “Byzantine” pattern which was in production from c1933.

Marked on the underside with a printed makers mark of “Crown Ducal England” under a crown. This mark was in use from c1932 until c1938. Also signed with a tubelined “Rhead” signature.

Royal Cauldon – Cairo Ware “Copia” Bowl – stock #32918

A fine British art pottery bowl decorated with a hand painted floral and fruit cornucopia design in rich green, grey and mauve colours. Made by Royal Cauldon and from the “Cairo Ware” range of art wares made during the 1920s.

This example is decorated with the Copia pattern the “octagonal bowl 1” shape. Many of these pattern were designed by Frederick Rhead.

Skrdlovice Glass – Petr Hora – stock #29318

An attractive mid century mordern design art glass vase made by the Czech firm, Skrdlovice / Beranek and dating to the early 1980s. This pattern was designed by Petr Hora (b1949) in 1983 with the range cylindrical and spherical vases and low bowl. Other colours include, green and amber with constrasting patterns.

It has an inner green core, cased in a thin layer of topaz glass and then a thick layer of clear glass. It has internal white and pink web decoration and bubbles. Understood to be pattern no 8316/30

A mid 1970’s Czech art glass vase by Prachen Glass from the “Flora” range designed by Frantisek Koudelka in 1973. This example is the scarer largest size with a pale sky blue over mottled white colour within clear glass.

Unmarked – hollow ground pontil on the underside. For similar see page 65 of “SKLO Czech Glass Design from the 1950s-70s” by Mark Hill.

A striking mid century design glass model of a seated cat. It has a blue grey body with purple inner, tail and eyes and with a red nose.  Attributed with the Murano glassmaker Cenedese and designed by Antonio De Ros (b1936). These cats can be found in various colours and positions, some seated, others as bookends.

Unsigned. Which for Cenedese suggests an earlier date.

A lovely Poole Pottery vase decorated with a modernist “contemporary” pattern in black and white on a pale chestnut coloured back ground. The “Freeform” shaped was designed by Alfred Read and Guy Sydenham and numbered 692.

This pattern is “PR.B”, designed by Alfred Read and dates to the mid 1950’s.
