Whitefriars Glass – FISH Vase Pattern C526 – stock #47417

A super original mid century modern design cut glass vase by Whitefriars Glass and dating to the early part of the 1960s.

It has a an ovoid shape with thick walls and angular cut and polisged top rim. The front is decorated with a cut design of a spikey fish swimming amongst weed. Illustrated in the 1960 and 1961 Whitefriars Glass sales catalogue.

Unmarked Generally very good looking. Wear on the underside and at he bottom of the inside. Some small surface scratches and one tiny nibble on the angled polished edge of the top rim – SEE pictures.

Powell Glass – Blue Thread Vase

James Powell & Sons Whitefriars Vase – stock #35717

An James Powell & Sons, Whitefriars Glass vase dating to the 1920’s with a bulbous form and decorated with a blue threaded pattern over a moulded diamond textured design. Most likely designed by Barnaby Powell c1920.

Plain coloured versions of this pattern are listed in the 1931 Whitefriars Glass sales catalogue as “Diamond Moulded Vases”. Also see Woolley & Wallis 20th Century Design Oct 2013 Lot 1073 for similar patterns.

A mid century modern design art glass vase with a tapering cylindrical form with a deep blue grey within clear colourway. Most likely designed by Geoffrey Baxter in the early part of the 1960’s.

This design is shape number 9655 as illustrated in the 1966 Whitefriars sakes catalogue. It was available in three sizes – 9.25, 7.75 and 6.5 inches.

A great looking original art deco glass decanter with stopper by Powell Whitefriars Glass. Designed by Barnaby Powell in about 1930. It is from the M54 “Govette” wine service in a golden amber colourway. Illustrated on page 129, Plate128 of “Whitefriars Glass, The Art of James Powell & Sons”

Quoting from Vogue magazine’s November 1933 isse; “The tall slender Govette decanter is a copy of an old Italian flask, and the glass has the uneven finish given by the mould”

Whitefriars Glass – Modernist Lampbase

Whitefriars Glass – Modernist Ruby Lampbase – stock #31016

This is a striking modernist design art glass lampbase made with a ruby colour cased in clear colourway. Heavy hand blown form with a hint of Scandanavia ! but actually a Powell Whitefriars dating to c1965. This shape is recorded on Whitefriars.com discussion board but the pattern number has not been identified. Most likely designed by Geoffrey Baxter.

It still has it’s original electrical fittings for historical record but WILL need to been re-wired before use.
