Richard Joyce
1873 - 1931
Born in Boothorpe, Derbyshire, he
studied at the Swadlincote school of art winning the Queen Victoria Prize for
Art. He went on to teach at the Burton on Trent school of art and worked at
Henry Tooth's Bretby Art Pottery and Moore Bros'.
He worked at Pilkington's from about
1903 until his death in 1931, where he painted may lustre wares and designed
shape. He also worked on the Lapis Ware range creating many imaginative
patterns. He also created a range of free standing animal sculptures and also
figural works as finials on ginger jars and vases.
