Gordon Mitchell Forsyth  1879- 1952

He was born in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire and educated at Robert Gordon's College and the Gray's school of Art. By 1900 he had been awarded a Royal Exhibition Scholarship to the Royal College of Art and a year later was awarded a Design School Travelling Scholarship which he spent in Italy.

He was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in 1927.

He exhibited widely including;

Royal Institute - 63 times
Fin Art Society - 2 times
Glasgow Institute of Fine Art - 8 times
Manchester City Art Gallery - 2 times

In 1902 he was appointed director to Minton, Hollins and Co designing tiles and faiences. From 1905 he worked at Pilkington's until 1920 with a break on service with the Royal Flying Corp (1916-1918).

After 1920 he became Superintendent of Art Instruction for the Stoke on Trent School of Art.

At Pilkington's he designed and decorated many important examples of lustred ceramic art and designed a number figural sculptures.
