Established in Swadlincote, Derbyshire by William Ault (born 1841) after
he had left the Bretby Art Pottery in 1887. He produced similar wares to both Bretby and
Linthorpe with Dr Christopher Dresser being commissioned to design for them.
Producing shapes that were often similar (or identical) to those used at
Linthorpe. He experimented with coloured glazes and was assisted by his daughter
Clarissa and Gertrude.
The firm won a gold medal at the 1893 Chicago
World Exposition.
In 1922 they merged with Pascoe Tunnicliff's
Ashby Potters Guild to form Ault and

1937.
