G L Ashworth & Bros
1861 - 1968
This firm is best known as a
manufacturer of Mason's Ironstone.
Their interest appears to have started
in 1909 with the introduction of the Estrella and Lustrosa ranges.
These were experimental glaze effect which had been developed by the Austrian
chemist
Dr L Basch and Vivian Goddard, son of the proprietor.
These art wares were exhibited at the
International Exhibition in Brussels in 1910 and in Turin a year later in 1911.
Production ceased about the time of the start of the First World War after Dr
Basch returned to Austria.
Usually with an impressed marked
"ASHWORTH" and sometimes with range name.
